Critical thinking
assignmnet
1. View a video episode on the publisher’s dedicated video site http://canmedia.mcgrawhill.ca/college/olcsupport/pearson/US3e/videos/videos.html
2. Read the assignment questions carefully and refer to specific interpersonal communication concept(s), skills, rules, or issues outlined in assigned textbook
CHAPTER 5-8 readings.
3. Relate the concepts, skills, rules, or issues described in the textbook (CHAPTER 5-8) to the actors and to the situations they portray in the video
scenario.
4. Assess interpersonal communication problems shown in the video-episode by thinking about an issue or concept highlighted in the textbook. Do so by
evaluating the communication skills actors practiced from two different perspectives:
• the efficiency of the communication skills being used
• the effect of those skills on the other actors and events in the scenario.
5. Reflect about what one or several actors could have done differently to improve the interpersonal communication you viewed or read about, either
before, during, or after this episode took place.
6. Write an answer that addresses steps 3 to 5 above. It should:
• demonstrate your knowledge of the material presented in the text.
• show your ability to apply it to the “real-life” situations shown in the videos.
• not exceed four paragraphs.
• include paragraphs with a main sentence and at least two supporting sentences.
• be consistent in verb tense; you should write either in the present or in the past.
