Promoting the GAPPS
Background
The Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS) has been operating since February 2003 as an entirely volunteer driven organisation with the aim of:
Developing global performance based standards for project management as a basis for transportability, transferability and mutual recognition of qualifications
The GAPPS vision statement is that GAPPS:
is the INDEPENDENT reference benchmark for alignment and transportability of Project and Program standards and qualifications
In achieving this vision the GAPPS will
Facilitate, develop, approve, publish, promote, maintain and review global project management standards
Facilitate, develop, approve, publish, promote, maintain and review usage guidelines for project management standards
NOT consult, advise, express opinion or develop products based upon standards and guidelines
NOT provide training, assessment, certifications or qualifications to individuals based upon standards and guidelines
It is the intent of the GAPPS to hold the copyright for all products produced in order to make them available for the public to use at no cost.
The GAPPS has no employed staff although income produced from membership and Working Session attendance fees is used to cover web site, accounting, secretariat and other operating costs which are kept to a minimum.
Work of the GAPPS is carried out primarily by volunteers who attend three day Working Sessions in various parts of the world.
The only presence of the GAPPS is the website: www. globalpmstandards.org. No printed material is provided. The email address is [email protected]. There is are LinkedIn group and Facebook sites set up for the GAPPS. Website traffic details are provided by Google Analytics. The Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards is a company incorporated in Australia.

Challenge
GAPPS has developed significant global standards for project and program management, and there is anecdotal evidence that these are being used eg by Rolls Royce, Shell, CBA, for various purposes. But the GAPPS has no evidence of wider awareness or use of the standards. The assumption is that the work GAPPS is doing is, and will continue to be valuable, but GAPPS needs to take action to achieve greater community engagement.
GAPPS has to earn respect globally and has to earn recognition for its standards and competence while maintaining its professionalism, as well as its volunteer spirit, friendly approach and social interaction.
GAPPS must also be able to improve and sustain its income stream – primarily from membership fees and workshops, in order for it to continue.
The challenge is to develop and implement an initiative that will increase
