At age 58 she had developed renal failure secondary to her diabetes and was started on tri-weekly dialysis. Eight years later, multiple disabling comorbidities compromised her quality of life. Despite multiple attempts to control the pain and treat the calcium-phosphorous imbalance, nothing seemed to help. At this point, Pat asked to discontinue dialysis.
