Syllabus Critique
Syllabus Critique
As your Learning Resources emphasized this week, a course outline or syllabus serves many functions for both students and educators. It is a particularly helpful tool for educators in planning their courses. In this Discussion, analyze a syllabus or course outline, preferably from the same program you are investigating in Application 1. Determine whether the model syllabus aligns well with the program’s outcomes and organizing framework, and identify any ways in which the syllabus demonstrates best practices or could be improved. This exercise will increase your understanding of the purposes of these documents and prepare you for your next Application, in which you create your own syllabus/course outline.
After analyzing the selected syllabus/course outline:
Post your critique, including the following:
Briefly describe the course and program for which this syllabus was created. (Do not use the actual names of those who created the syllabus.)
1-Does the syllabus provide course outcomes or objectives? In what ways do they correspond to the program’s outcomes?
2-Describe two ways in which the syllabus illustrates best practices.
3-Describe any ways which the course/module might be improved. Consider in particular how it might be revised to better align with the program’s mission or philosophy, organizing framework, or outcomes.
4-Does it adequately reflect essential external factors (including competencies, standards, guidelines, regulations, or societal expectations) and internal factors (including learner needs)?
