The President’s opening remarks tied together several phrases which brought the political values of the Founder’s into the current political realities he and we face as a nation; i.e. to: ‘ bear witness to the constitution…exceptional and american…inalieable rights of the Declaration re: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…bricks and mortor of a bridge to the reality of our time…(and that) … these values are not self executing.’ What do you assess the President is getting at as he set up his address with these comments?

The Innauguration address seemed to cycle through this idea of the values of the nation and the challenges to be faced while repeating a sense of that the current agenda must be faced “together…(with) new responses to new problems…collectively…seize this time together…(that) the means change yet our purpose endures…we the people…” What is the philosophy being suggested here?

In a refence to the political rancor of current day relations amongst the leadership the President comments: “”We cannot mistake absolutism for principle, or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate…” In keeping with the theme that opened this address what value of american democractic process is Obama suggesting?

5. In closing his address the President remarks that he took the oath of office to God and Country, not to party or faction. He references himself as he comments “you and I as citizens” in suggesting a “common effort and common purpose”.
