Compare/Contrast
Select two well-known individuals in the same profession-for example, politics, entertainment or sports. Make a list for each, enumerating the different aspects of their character, behavior, beliefs and background. Using this as an outline, devise an essay comparing and contrasting the two.

Consider your purpose in writing this essay. Why should the readers be interested in this comparison/contrast topic? Are your two subjects more alike than your audience would think? Are they more different? Think about the Lee and Grant essay.

The Specifics:

Do not just focus on a chronological discussion of your subjects’ lives. Make sure it is clear to the audience why we should be interested in comparing/contrasting your two subject matters.

Your essay must be at least three pages. It can be longer.

• Before essays are submitted, remember to submit the essay to the Pearson Source Check. Also, remember to attach a copy of the assignment to the composing space. I will explain these requirements in class.

• Four sources are required; more sources may be necessary, but four are required. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source.

• Copies of sources are required. Ten points will be deducted if copies of sources are not turned in on the essay’s due date.

• Proper MLA Documentation is required. Since we are just learning about MLA Documentation, for this essay I will be looking for signal phrases, direct quotations, summaries and a proper works cited page.

• The smooth incorporation of source material is important.

• You must follow either the block pattern or the alternating pattern of organization. (I should be able to tell which pattern you are following.)
