Assignment
Oedipus is often considered a perfect example of a tragic hero. In a thesis-based, analytical
essay, analyze Oedipus’s character: what sort of many is he? What are his strengths and his
weaknesses? What is his fatal flaw? How does he interact with others? How does his
character determine his fate?
Tips
? The only evidence for Oedipus’s character that we have is the dialogue from the
play. Therefore, use the dialogue from the play to prove your point.
? Avoid list-like paragraphs. For instance, don’t write one paragraph on strengths, one
on weaknesses, and one on fate. Instead, connect the ideas in your paragraphs: how
do his strengths compliment or otherwise affect his weaknesses?
