1. Decide on a Dewey Decimal category or categories on which to develop your annotated bibliography. You may focus on a particular section of a Dewey section. For example; if you chose the 700 section, which covers art, sports, etc? you may choose to focus on the range that covers sports. a. You may want to base your decision on your interest in a particular subject and/or the other person who has selected the category. b. You may also decide to communicate via email or face to face. The way you complete this assignment with your partner is your choice but it is to be completed collaboratively. 2.

Part Two: Develop a Dewey Decimal Classification Category Annotated Bibliography
1. Contact your partner with whom you will be completing this assignment a. Decide how best to collaborate on the work before you get started b. Review your understanding of annotated bibliographies and the assignment expectations 2. Find and review at least ten resources to include in your annotated bibliography. You may want to include a few more resources to cover all topics covered by your Dewey Decimal category. a. You may include books, computer programs, websites, movies, listening tapes, or any other resource that would be useful in a teaching and learning situation. b. Your resources should be items that could be used by teachers and students. c. These resources might be housed in or available from the school library. But the subject of all your resources must fall into your chosen Dewey Decimal Classification category. For example; if you select the 900 section you should not use a historical fiction book as one of your resources. If you use a web site as a resource you should not use a broad topic web site such as World Book Online or the dreaded Wikipedia! If your category is the 900 section and you are focusing on history the web site should be just about history. d. Try to include a variety of resources. If the majority of your resources are books, try to add a resource or two of a different format. You might consider mixing print and non-print, etc. 3. The information for each resource on your list will have two parts?the bibliographic information and the annotation. The annotation will have a brief summary of the resource and your review. 4. Bibliographic information must include (when available) a. Title

b. Author c. Publisher d. Copyright or published date e. Example = Fritz, Jean. The great little Madison. Scholastic Press, c1989
5. Annotation information must include a. Summary of the resource content b. How the resource might be used c. Evaluation (if you are familiar with the resource) d. Written in paragraph form e. Approximately one paragraph in length f. Example = Jean Fritz is a master at writing historical fiction and biographies (evaluation). The Great Little Madison is one of her longer biographies for elementary students (gr.4-8). Readers learn about Madison the boy and the man. Fritz covers Madison?s early years, his role in the formation of the United States, and his later years (summary). It would be a good addition to a 5th grade social studies unit where students, many times, find textbooks uninteresting and difficult to read (how it might be used).
Part Three: Write an assignment reflection
1. Consider all aspects of this assignment as you prepare to write a. Dewey Decimal selection process b. Collaboration process c. Annotated bibliography development 2. Follow these guidelines as you write a. Format = at least one page in length (you may need to go longer but less than one page will result in points lost) b.
