Seek out an adult whose native language is not English and has to learn a new language. Pair with him or her and engage in about 4-5 hours of intercultural conversations in multiple sessions. You should attempt to learn something about the communication patterns and cultural patterns of your conversational partner. If you want to tape record the conversation, you should get your conversational partner’s consent.

3.Are there any special features of the verbal codes used in your conversations?
4.Are there any special features of the nonverbal codes used in your conversations?
5.Are there distinct social episodes that seem to be governed by specific cultural rules?
6.How does the interpersonal communication in these intercultural conversations differ from what you might find in a similar interaction among people from your own culture?
7.What advice he or she would give to another newcomer to the US in terms of intercultural competence?
