bay area

How has the bay area changed through time?
Start with a brief introduction to the topic including the current state of the Bay Area.
• Approach each point in time in the order given above so you are effectively taking yourself, and the reader, back in time.
• Describe what you would see if you, or the reader, were standing in the Bay Area during each time jump. Build your description around the four spheres, talk about what interactions would be occurring between them, and highlight one or two major changes going from one time to the next.
• Conclude your paper by answering the following: What do you think the Bay Area will look like 10,000 years in the future? This is an open-ended question so you can answer this question however you want, but make it a thoughtful response!
• Your paper should be no more than 6 pages long. This is TEXT ONLY so if you have plenty of pictures it won’t count
Geologists discovered the tectonic plate theory after the Second World War. The San Francisco Bay Area can be considered as well endowed with rock features believed to have been exposed through natural or human processes. The paradigm shift resulted to the formation of many continents, islands, mountains, seas and much more geographical features. The Bay Area can be found on the Northern Carlifornia, United States. It covers a large part with several urban towns and rural areas. The Bay Area would be considered a major tourist attraction due to its beautiful scenery and cool climate. These features of attraction would be the likes of mountains, hills and water bodies. Currently, the Bay Area can be considered as one of the wealthiest towns in San Francisco. This would be as a result of the above average economy due to tourism. However, Bay Area has been experiencing a rising sea level. This can be considered worrying as it would affect the human life near the Pacific Ocean. The natural and human history of the Bay dates back to many years ago. These areas can be considered as an active tectonic plate margin due to presence of land slides, earthquake faults, coastal erosion and utilization of natural resources. An example of a feature would be the Hayward Fault which geologists believe to be over 12 million years old.
Over the centuries, various earth movements occurred that were believed to have led to the formation of The Bay. Over million years ago, the Bay was a convergent plate boundary according

to most geologists. The San Francisco Bay Area did not exist at that time. The Pacific Plate and North American plate interacted leading to the formation of the San Andreas Fault System. Other faults connected with the formation of the San Francisco Bay would be Hayward Fault, Greenville, Calaveras and other faults. The previously mentioned are vertical earth movements and other horizontal earth movements led to the formation of the Bay area. It is believed tectonic plate movements broke the rocks underlying the land. The crustal faults and thrusts also led to the frequent rise and fall of the sea levels in the Pacific Ocean. The coastal ranges also started rising to high elevations. The previous Glacial was recorded about 20 thousand years ago where the sea level had been approximately lower with 130 meters than presently. The continental shelf would be exposed as compared to the present day continental shelf exposure. This continental shelf changes and rise in sea level affects the hydrosphere. This involves the increase in aquatic vegetation and animals. There coastline was far much stretched towards the ocean despite the absence of the Coastal Bay. The present bay was a valley that appeared broad and forested with tributary rivers joining the ocean. Researchers claim that the sea level rises 1metre per 100 years. The valley supported human life and wildlife such as camels, horses and mammoths. The vegetation was grasslands and other brushy plants and cypress trees. The change in atmosphere due to the warm climate led to the glaciers melting. The melting waters flowed back to the oceans leading to the rising sea levels. However, the level of the sea

was not constant. In hundreds of years, the coastlines began to form as the water reached the valley. This led to the emergence of the now present Bay. The vegetation and some type of wildlife ceased to exist like the mammoth. People invaded the valley and changed it to what it is in the present Day.
The landscape of San Francisco Bay Area would also be said to be an effect of human activity. The human population was minimal who engaged in hunting and gathering. This led to the peaceful living with the other animals. The humans adapted to agricultural economy and animal grazing. This interfered with biosphere status by replacing or diminishing the existence of flora and fauna. Activities such as mining also led to the emergence of various features present in the Bay. The landscape in the mentioned Bay Area would still experience changes with the increasing population. As population increases, their activities interfere with the normal ecosystem.
San Francisco has faced various challenging tragedies in the past. These include the 1906 earthquake which lasted for a minute but destroyed and killed over 3000 peopled. The damage of property would be approximated to $400 000000 according to the 1906 $ value. As a result of the earthquake was the Chinatown fire. Chinatown was regarded as Chinese Ghetto by the people of San Francisco. Its destruction by the fire would be considered as a relief due to uncivilized and unclean state. The citizens of San Francisco despised China town and decided that no more China town in their boundaries. These fire and earthquakes consumed large parts of San Francisco’s land and population. However, the economy of

the state seems to be stable and has taken measures to avoid such disasters. Some measures would be displacing people living near the oceans to prevent being swept away by any immediate earthquake. The presence of earth tremors has also forced the people to built strong and stable houses to prevent destruction. However, geologists claim that no matter the artificial and human protection, natural disasters may be impossible to prevent. Some extent of earthquakes can not be contained by humans.
