I. Synopsis
Briefly outline the main argument being made in the piece. This will require you to synthesize the arguments made throughout the piece to come up with the main message of the article. Be sure not to outline each argument made (you will address these points in your crucial reflection) It may be useful to think about the conceptualization of gender, assumptions about men’s and women’s preferences, natures, etc. Think about how the author(s) may be drawing, perhaps implicitly, on theories discussed in class. Be sure to back up your discussion with course materials and/or peer-reviewed sources (see information on sociological sources below).

II. Critical Reflection
Identify the major arguments being made in the article and drawing on sociological theories and empirical evidence, assess the validity of the author(s) arguments (e.g. does your sociological evidence support or negate the author’s claims?). Due to page limitations, you cannot address every argument so choose the one’s that fit best with the topics discussed in class or those that most interest you.

III. Conclusions and Future Research
Based the sociological evidence that you have gathered, discuss what conclusions ought to be drawn, and whether or not your conclusions agree or disagree with the author(s) conclusions. If you think more research needs to be carried out in order to come to a more informed argument, what questions should sociologists and journalists be asking? Note: I want you to be creative and critical so feel free to go beyond these questions if you deem something worthy of further investigation.
