Why Does Studying Organizational Behavior Matter?”

 

Determine the key ways that an understanding of organizational behavior can contribute to the successful management of an organization. Explain your experience utilizing or witnessing the use of OB in your work environment.

 

The understanding of organizational behavior can contribute to the management success of an organization by allowing managers to look at different variables that impact human behavior. Organizational behavior refers to the study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups, and structures have on behavior within organizations.  Some variables that influence human behavior are communication and performance management.  Communication is an essential factor because it requires exchanging general information and processing paperwork. An efficient manager monitors the flow of communication to determine how the organization share information with consumers and employees of the business. Performance management is important for manager’s effectiveness because they can determine the success of the employee with the company. Utilizing the performance management tool allows managers to ensure employees’ job duties fulfill the expectation of the business. As well as, motivating their employees to meet the standards and goals of the company to further their growth with the organization.

 

My experience

I have witnessed OB at my current job where I am a Family Investment Specialist. The use of job performance is mandatory where I work and have to be completed semi-annual. The job performance is a tool used to measure your job duties and responsibilities in the current role you hold in your organization. It measures your adaptability, teamwork, communication skills, work ethic and attendance. Leaders who are responsible for utilizing the performance management tool provides employees with constructive feedback on their job performance whether it’s great or poor and how they can improve. Leaders also give insight regarding the vision and mission of the company to motivate their employees to reach their full potential while achieving the goals of the organization.

You made some great points in your discussion. I agree that the attitudes of employees and their work performance determine an organizational behavior. I believe this because employees of any organization are the face of that business. Their customer service and communications skills determine how consumers respond to that business. As a consumer myself when I do shop for products and services I know I want to receive the highest customer experience.  Additionally, the way management treats employees are important because it allows the employee to do their best or make them not want to do the job. Motivating employees are number one in any organization because you are showing them that you appreciate their work ethics and want them to succeed in your organization. Lastly, promoting teamwork is essential to the business as well the workers. For example, at my job teamwork was a big issue because two teams are working for one organization. However, the teams were divided at first, and one team lead did not want her team communicating with the other team. The supervisor did not want this because she felt as though no work was not being completed. Furthermore, this situation affected the whole organization because everything was divided, and things were processed two different ways that made things difficult. It became a big issue and the second lead spoke up, and now we all work together as an organization.
