%u0432%u0402%u045AWhat is theatre and what can, or should, it be?%u0432%u0402%u045C This is the weighty question you must tackle in a report for this course. Your report should contain, and will be evaluated upon, the following components and criteria:
Part 1. Personal Statement%u0432%u0402%u201Dapproximately 800- 1000 words
A concise and polished explanation of what role theatre has in your life and describes your ideal theatre experience.
Taking into account your experiences in this class and out, what does theatre mean to you?
How has your understanding or appreciation of the art form changed over time?
Describe the most impactful aesthetic experience you have had with theatre.
Reference artists and/or concepts we have discussed in class.
Part 2. List of Five Interview Questions for a theatre artist/company.
Spend some time researching contemporary theatre companies and artists (we have put a few on blackboard for you to browse through if you so choose), and find one you believe best matches your emerging personal aesthetic as explained in your personal statement.
To satisfy this component of the report, create a list of five interview questions for this artist or company and explain why you want to know the answer to those questions. You will be assessed on the depth and thoughtfulness of both your questions and your reasoning.
If you prove to us that you have sent these questions to the artist in a respectful and sincere manner, you will receive 5 points of extra credit. If the artist/company responds, you will get an additional 5 points of extra credit for proving to us that you sent an appropriate thank you!
Part 3: Description of your ideal model theatre, approximately 800-1000 words
Knowing what you do about how plays get produced and the different ways that work is created and performed, describe a model theater that you feel puts into practice your ideal. There are several valid approaches to this. It is possible that you might find that the perfect theatre company for you already exists. If that is the case then you will have meticulously researched the extant company and create an ideal fictitious season of types of productions for that company. You could just as easily create a hybrid from existing companies, or invent one from your own imagination.
You should include a mission statement and a description of how the theatre produces work, their audience, their creative output, and any other details you deem important. Remember to address the components in the formula: ACTOR+AUDIENCE = THEATRE.
***BONUS (up to 25 points): Outline what your 1st production (or season of productions could look like if you find an existing theatre as your artistic home). Provide as many details as you can and explain how the different aspects connect to your mission statement
Part 4. Annotated Bibliography

Include at the end of your report a comprehensive annotated bibliography that shares with us the story of your research. It should contain 3-5 sources minimum, and more than one must be from the library. List each source according to standard formatting and follow each entry with explanations as to:
What is the premise or main idea of this resource in one or two sentences?
How was this resource valuable to you in writing this report?
