What are the critical successes factors in promoting a music artist online.
Introduction:
Everyone has a main goal they would like to achieve in life, or an ambition they would like to fulfill, mine was simply to be in the music industry. Unfortunately for me, assembling and performing music was not one of my strong points or one of my biggest talents. The great thing about the music industry is that there are many aspects to it; it is not just about recording a song and simply releasing it. One thing that particularly intrigued me about the industry is how much work is involved in the promotion side. How you promote an artist is the single most important factor to their success and it has become more vital in the world we live in today. Living in an age where the Internet is the most popular source of sharing information, it is vital that the artist has a strong online promotion campaign. Promoting online is a strategy that is particularly clever; the more fans feel involved in something, the higher the chance that they contribute to an artist’s success, as they feel emotionally and physically involved. In order to complete this project to a high standard, my understanding of how you can promote an artist online needs expanding. For this main reason, the title of my project will be “What are the critical success factors in promoting a music artist online”. This title will give me the freedom to critically investigate methods and techniques to successfully promote a music artist online.

Background:
In the article “How To Be A Famous Musician Online” the unknown writer (C7) 2012 elaborates on the importance of online promotion and gives examples of artists who have become famous from the Internet. With the recent burst of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, it comes as no surprise that many music artists have been able to exploit this phenomenon to their advantage. Social media has increased artists’ success, whether it is by them promoting their songs, videos and gigs or by just interacting with fans to make them feel more involved with their day-to-day lives. This helps sell songs, tickets for tours and also any other merchandise. By using the web to promote their “brand”, it has greatly helped artists’ as it is a quick and easy way to let fans know about any upcoming singles, tours etc. With millions using social networking sites, it is always hard to be oblivious to certain news. For example, many artists will use their own twitter and Facebook pages to promote their official website by linking them to their accounts. This means that any information that is posted on their official website will automatically appear on their social networking site.
