Q: Can there ever be too much regulation? Why or why not? In your response please state why government regulation exist according to the text.
Regulations are used for diverting private resources to achieve policy goals. Federal agencies issue and enforce standards ranging from environmental quality to business and banking. Regulatory mandates often are very costly. I do think there are more regulations then we necessarily need. Like many other things involved with government, there are good and bad outcomes that come with this. I personally think the good outweighs the bad. No one likes regulations, just like no one likes going to the DMV. But we can’t just leave it up to the free market to make sure drivers have licenses, food doesn’t contain poison, or bankers don’t take risks that threaten the global economy. Many think government regulation is an occasionally annoying but a necessary aspect of living in a capitalist society. Some people say regulations are life-saving protections. The U.S. government has set many business regulations in place to protect employees’ rights, protect the environment and hold corporations accountable for the amount of power they have in a very business-driven society.
