Thalidomide is a drug that was prescribed to pregnant women between 1958 and 1962 to reduce the effects of morning sickness, but resulted in thousands of children born with malformed limbs because the drug affected the growth of new blood vessels. We dont know if she has a new gene mutation or was exposed to thalidomide in utero.
