COURSEWORK
A Ltd, a company based in Malaysia, entered into a contract to supply a cargo of timber to B Ltd, a company based in England. Under the terms of the contract of sale A Ltd agreed to procure and supply the timber, and to insure for the goods (but not to arrange for their carriage) to a named seaport in England. A contract of carriage is to be arranged by B Let, the buyer, both parties agreed that the payment method is to be by a letter of credit and that the contract should be governed by English law.
QUESTIONS
(a) Identify and discuss the possible types of special trade terms involved in this transaction, including the main obligations of both the buyer and the seller under the contract, and with reference to decided cases, explain the role governing the passing of property and risk in a “c.i.f.” transaction and in the “f.o.b.” transaction for the international sell of goods.

(b) As part of the credit arrangement in the scenario set out above the parties have agreed that the transaction is to be financed by a letter of credit.
Identify and discuss the salient features of the letter of credit and explain how the bill of exchange differs from the letter of credit as a method of financing the international sale of goods.
