Business Context
As a basis for the detailed discussions you should outline the business objectives and strategies for your specific functional area of the business.
You should also explain how your area fits within the framework of the overall hotel business and the principal interfaces with other business areas. (You may find a diagram a suitable way of explaining this position.)
Specific Technical Elements
Business Processes
• Identify and describe the business processes within the area of the business that your group has studied. These processes may be initiated by either hotel staff or by customers. They may also be either operational processes or management processes.
Database
Explain the business purpose of each entity within your entity-relationship diagram, i.e. why has it been structured in this way and what information does it provide to support the business processes ?
Explain the kinds of queries that are made possible by the proposed structure of your database and the ways in which these queries will assist the business operation, i.e. what practical business questions do they answer ?
Also identify any known constraints in your database structure, i.e. business capabilities that you know this structure will not support and that you have consciously excluded in the belief that they are not important or are likely to be of infrequent occurrence.

Computer Hardware and Network
Explain how your proposed input devices will assist the staff in collecting data quickly and accurately.
Explain how the chosen output devices will make information available to staff promptly when needed.
Where appropriate to your area of the business, identify any aspects of data input and output that might usefully be supported by web technology.
Explain how your planned network infrastructure will facilitate communication between various departments within a single hotel, communication with the other hotels and head office within the chain, and communication with the outside world, i.e. with customers, suppliers and other agencies.
Explain how the use of this input, output and network equipment will improve the level of service to the hotel’s customers and hence their satisfaction with the business.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
This assignment is not intended to be a purely theoretical exercise. As with the in-module case study, it is intended to be about practical application of knowledge in a realistic business situation.
The purpose of a post-module assignment is to provide an opportunity for further learning beyond what was gained during the module. Therefore this assignment allows for reassessment of the somewhat technical work undertaken during the in-module case study and reflection on the benefits that this technology might provide to the business under discussion.
By all means feel free to expand on the work that your group has done during the module or research ideas that might be developing currently within the hospitality business.
However, remember that this is essentially a practical report for business managers who are considering investing in a new computer system for their chain of hotels and are primarily interested in the question “what will it do for the business ?”.
You are welcome to include technical detail developed during the module in an appendix, but the body of the report should be only about 2,000-2,500 words, with an absolute maximum of 3,000 words.
