This chapter addresses legal and ethical concerns facing nursing educators, particularly staff developers.
Among the legal issues discussed are copyright laws governing the educational use of others’ materials.

Excerpt from Chapter 3—”The Academic Performance of Students: Legal and Ethical Issues” (pages 34–50)
This chapter excerpt describes legal principles and policies involving student performance that nursing
educators should be aware of. Topics include students’ rights, guidelines for providing due process to
students, and the grievance and student appeal processes. Also discussed are the nursing faculty’s
responsibilities in evaluating clinical and classroom performance.
