Essay, Human Resources (HR)
Chapter 11 Application Exercise
1. SCUBA tanks arrive at a pressure test station for testing prior to shipment. The arrival rate is eight per hour and the station test time averages five minutes. Poisson distributions are assumed. Solve the following problems, showing your work:

a. What is the utilization of the test station?
b. What is the probability that a tank will have to wait in queue prior to testing?
c. What is the mean time a tank will spend in queue?
d. What is the mean time that a tank will spend in the system?
e. What is the mean number of tanks which might be expected to be in queue at any time?
f. What is the mean number of tanks which might be expected to be in the system at any time?
g. What is the probability of finding three or more tanks in the system at any time?

2. If the tests performed on the SCUBA tanks in 1) above requires a fixed amount of time – exactly five minutes – and if arrival rate and pattern remain as described, then solve the following problems, showing your work.

a. What is the mean time a tank will spend in queue?
b. What is the mean time that a tank will spend in the system?
c. What is the mean number of tanks which might be expected to be in queue at any time?
d. What is the mean number of tanks which might be expected to be in the system at any time?
e. What effects – if any – will the constant service rates have on the overall costs of SCUBA tank production? Explain your answer.
f. What criteria, in addition to throughput time, will be relevant to any decision about changing the procedures or resources employed in the tank testing? According to Masterpapers you do have the program software and that you have an experience to work with it. In this assignment you do need to work on the SPSS to run some procedures and write the findings accordingly. First I would like you to look at the data then run the necessary procedures (which I explained in the methodology of this paper). I would like you also to use the “multi response” function and compare numbers according to the research question that is (Were the Hajj services provided by the Saudi government and its authorities well prepared and delivered well to the public?) HINT: I DO NOT WANT YOU TO COMPARE THE FINDINGS OF THE PILGRIMS QUESTIONNAIRE WITH THE FINDINGS OF THE HAJJ AGINCES QUESTIONNAIRE. Each questionnaire has its own findings, and that it should be interpret separately. I want to see if both groups are satisfied with their experience in 2012 Hajj.
So, to be in the same page I am uploading the research methodology with my SPSS data for you and I will include a brief or an intro about this thesis. If we finished this part and it was exactly like we wanted I will need you to work on the discussion as will in that case I will send you the literature review for more references. This is just the results interpretation.
P.S. I will include a part of the SPSS findings which I have organized in Excel table. If you see any significant numbers in those tables please include them as will. This is the way I want the writing to be based on. The charts and/or tables will take a space in the word doc. hopefully it will not consider in the total count of written pages.
