Movie Project: How is race and ethnicity communicated in movies? Please select at least two of the following movies to watch (you will need to watch at least

twice). Provide a typed outline of the moves – e.g. main scenes – with your final paper.

Address the following questions and points in your paper:

Who were the main characters in the movies (up to three per movie), what was their racial and ethnic identity? How do you know this was their identity? What

was the main plot or storyline of the movie? How was race and ethnicity related to this main storyline?
What (if any) stereotypes are expressed in these movies? How so?
Compare and contrast the two movies.
Thinking about both movies, and being analytic, step back and identify at least two of the following concepts that can be used as a framework to discuss the way

that race and ethnicity was represented in the movies: colonization, exploitation, class, structure, culture, acculturation, assimilation, color-blindness, gentrification,

segregation, immigration, intersectionality, social mobility, inequality. Provide a discussion about how these concepts are directly or indirectly discussed/implied in the

movie.
What would an alien from another planet who is not familiar with the U.S. racial paradigm learn about the race/ethnic category of focus in this movie?

Within your analysis of the text (either the notes from the museum, the movies or your interview transcripts), you need to reference concepts, theories and/or

historical moments we have discussed in class and read. You must cite at least six of the course readings that are relevant to your topic. The essay must include a

bibliography to receive credit. Total page length will be approximately 6-8 pages, 12 point font, double spaced.
