Interview — a group mock interview process — requires you to prepare for and participate in an interview for a job from three perspectives: as the job applicant (the interviewee), as the interviewer and as an observer. During the interview, you will be expected to demonstrate the relevance and benefits of your dissertation in helping you build your personal brand.

Element 6: The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Mock Assessment Centre Exercise
Reflection on the ACE experience: preparation, group work, presentation – what did you learn about yourself and your own strengths (and your needs for continuing development / career preparation?)
Element 7: Career Development / Networking Event: Employer visit, Job Fair, or GET Careers Workshops
Evidence of attending a career development or networking event (e.g., photo of you at the event, copy of entry ticket/ programme/ employer business cards, signed attendance register if on-campus event, etc.)
Learning outcomes: what did you learn about employability, labour market prospects, organisational requirements / recruitment processes, qualifications, identified needs for continuing development, etc.?
Report on the various types of companies and sectors at the fair, and reflect on how this experience affected your choice of company/sector and other issues
Element 8: Industry Review: Analysis of sector and assessment of employability
Clear analysis of the sector in terms of activities, composition, competition, regulation, and type of employment in labour market
Comment on what attracts you most and how likely you would be to work for a company in this sector: How do your skills match with what is likely to be required and what are your plans to improve certain skills? At what level would you expect to enter the labour market and where do you plan to be within 3-5 years?
Reflect on how the activities in the industry sector fit with your overall personal values and ethical principles
Element 9: Job Application analysis of the process and reflection, with final targeted Covering Letter/CV
Analysis: research on company and opportunity (e.g., grad scheme) – clearly emphasising the match between your skills and the skill requirements of the specific job
Letter/Statement/CV final version, targeted for specific job application of your choice (provide a copy)
Suitable structure and style / Mechanical soundness (clearly written, spell-checked, grammatically sound) – this must be “perfect” this time building on prior feedback!
SUMMARY: Reflection on the job application process: how well are you prepared for with regard to the technical and more generic skills, your employability your aspirations, the type of job you would prefer and the type of company you would like to work for, all the various stages of the job application process etc.

Element 11: Mock Interview based on job description/requirements to be provided ~ this must be completed in a group of three PPD3 students only

Element 12: Reflective Report on the Mock Interview experience: Providing feedback and commenting on the three roles you played of interviewee (applicant), interviewee, and observer
Interviewee (Job Applicant) Reflection: How well were you prepared for the various questions that were posed in the interview? How effective were your answers? How was your appearance and how effective were you in general? How could you improve your performance in the future?
Interviewer Reflection: How effective were you in acquiring the most relevant information from the interviewee and how well was the interview conducted with regard to questioning?
Observer Reflection: Comments on how both the interviewee and interviewer performed and how effective the whole process was; also comment on the verbal and non-verbal communication used during the interview and its impact on the interviewing process; did you provide useful feedback to both the interview (primarily) and interviewer?

 

Guidance on PPD3 Interview Reflection Exercise

1. Form teams of 3 (maximum 4) – as directed by your tutor (contact them if you do not have a group agreed).
2. Familiarise yourself with the Enterprise graduate job scheme and possible interview questions as per Workshops 3 and 4.
3. Video-record yourselves interviewing each other for the scheme as per Workshop 4, so that each person gets to act as i) interviewer, ii) interviewee, and iii) observer.
4. Reflect individually on the quality of each interview in a Word document (see the following headings based on the table in Workshop 4 as a guide – max. 1500 words):
