I am a DNP (Doctorate of Nursing Practice) student. I need to complete my proposal for my clinical project. A PhD student is research focused and completes primary research. A DNP's role is to take that research and put it into practice. My objective of this project is to evaluate how many antibiotic prescriptions are written for a 6 clinic urgent care in patients that present for complaints and diagnosis of upper respiratory infection. All the research based peer reviewed research states that in most cases these infections are viral in nature and do not require an antibiotic. Despite this evidence, the number of prescriptions for upper respiratory infections still remain above the acceptable levels. My project aim is to educate the medical providers (doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants) on the current guidelines and develop an algorithm for all providers to follow in their clinical decision making.
