Instructions

So far, youve studied ID models and needs assessment in this class. How do you feel about what you know so far? Simply having an understanding of models and what is the beginning step in many ID models is a great start! At this point, you should know that you will skip steps in models in your career in ID. However, you will have the knowledge of what you leave out so that you can make the best decisions and recommendations.

This week, youll tackle another case study that examines learner/learning analysis. Learning is more encompassing and involves the learner and the learning environment.

There are instructional designers who specialize in front-end analysis (remember, analysis is the A in ADDIE) and some who specialize more in learner analysis. Most instructional designers are generalistsspecializing in everything!

Assignment:

Early childhood professionals are expected to be knowledgeable of current policy and legislation in the field. In this Assignment, you will research current policy and legislation in early childhood on a topic assigned to you by the instructor. After describing the historical impact of this policy or legislation and its impact on early childhood, you will create a plan of advocacy to share this information with parents and professional colleagues.

Each student was assigned to a team in Unit 4, each team was assigned a topic, and the Assignment was discussed at length in the Unit 4 Seminar. This affords your team more than four units during which to arrange several meetings and organize your strategy for completing this Assignment.

In your group, research the policy or legislation assigned to your group by your instructor.

Case Scenario: Rosario is a new kindergarten teacher in a local private school. This is her first teaching job and she is excited to begin to use what she has learned in her early childhood bachelors degree program. She learned about state standards in her program, but she is not clear on how state standards should be applied in her position.

Part 1:

Each state has early childhood state standards. Search for your state (Alabama) and locate your early childhood state standards. How could Rosario use these state standards in her kindergarten classroom? Please give specific examples.

Part 2:

Private schools have typically had more freedom in curriculum choices than public schools. How can Rosario discuss with parents the role of curriculum in the private kindergarten as she works to meet the early childhood standards in her state?
