CLONING!
Using the research you did as a group and what you learned on your own you will write a research paper about your topic.
As a group hopefully you discussed your topic and what you all felt the issues surround it are. Now you will write a paper discussing what is known and what you think about it.
In your discussion you should present the current state and what you think about it. Do you have suggestions to improve the current state? Do you think we should completely eliminate the issues? Could we completely eliminate the issues?
Format for Report: You will write a Lab Report (See Lab Manual pg 171-173):
Abstract: A comprehensive paragraph that summarizes your entire lab report. Includes explanation for why the study was conducted, how the study was performed, and what the primary results and conclusions of your study are.
Introduction: Convey to your reader the purpose of your study. Discuss your background knowledge and other current knowledge (found by reviewing peer reviewed published literature). When writing, if you cite references make sure that you include a reference to your source. For our purposes: this will be why you picked your topic, what you knew before, and some initial research you did.
Methods: Tell your reader how you did your experiment. You want to give enough information that your reader could repeat the experiment. Make sure to include all relevant information about how you collected your data. For our purposes: this will include a breakdown of how the group work was divided and whether or not everyone participated equally, you will also discuss how and where you did your research and where the most useful information was found.
Results: Summarize the results of your study. Include both a table and a figure, and be sure to reference both of these in your written results section. For our purposes: this will be what you found out and should include a table and a chart summarizing your findings.
Discussion: Summarize the findings of your study, refer to the results to state how your results support the findings you are reporting. This is YOUR interpretation of the results; this may be somewhat different from your group members because each person will write it from their perspective. For our purposes: this will be where you bring in your personal take, where is the field going, is it changing, should it change, and anything else that bears discussion from your research.
Conclusion: (Our lab manual does not include this, but most published papers contain a conclusion where you really drive home your point. If you have a good conclusion, it makes your paper stronger, but a weak conclusion can really weaken your position…include this if you feel you have a strong one, omit it if you do not.) For our purposes: this is your final conclusive thought, what you want the reader to take home as important.
