He described nine different types of love. His ultimate form of love is “consummate love.” Is anything missing in his definition of “consumate love” to make a really good partner love relationship last?

(Tip: Sternberg’s “types” of love seem to be based on Commitment, Passion and Intimacy. Sternberg describes “consummate love” as the combination of intimacy, passion, and commitment (Meyers, 2012). In some ways a great partner love relationship could last with these three components, however, without a strong, open, communication between the partners the relationship will not be successful. Feelings based on lust or “in the moment” emotion could result only in infatuation, passion, and not a fatuous love therefore not progressing through Sternberg’s triangle of love (Meyers, 2012).
True key ingredients for a lasting love relationship between partners include disclosure reciprocity—those couples who truly know each other will have a love that can endure anything (Meyers, 2012).
