Each question is one essay, each essay is 1000 words.
As these are broad, general questions, you may like to focus on three case studies in responding to each question.
You must consider at least 6-7 readings used in this course. Note this is a minimum, but is a total figure (ie. you might look at 2 readings for one question and 3 for another, making 5 readings all together). Websites, general texts, lectures and tutorials are in addition to these. You must reference all material. It is a requirement that the exam responses are your own work. Students are not to work with other students in the preparation of your responses.
Your essay should be fully referenced, including footnotes and a bibliography. Footnotes are compulsory! Your paper will fail without these. See the instructions on referencing in the Assessment Tab (14) on the unit website. Please also ensure that you fully understand what constitutes plagiarism, and the importance of avoiding it, by reading the Macquarie University Academic Honesty Policy, available as a link from the same location.
Work needs to be in A4 single-spaced typescript. Please use size 12 font, Times New Roman or Arial, with standard margin widths.

Instructions:
This exam is designed to test both your general knowledge of the historical issues and your grasp of key historiographical debates discussed in the course. From the list of seven questions below you are required to select two questions and write short essays on those selected questions – 1,000 words per question. The exam is worth 20% of your overall course assessment.
