1.1) Compile a presentation on HIV/AIDS wherein you explain the following in
your own words:
? The concept of HIV/AIDS
? The way the immune system works
? The concept of the window period
? The impact of opportunistic infections
? The stages of the disease with an example of each stage
? The ways in which HIV is transmitted with examples. Provide views on
wellbeing including the survival chances if HIV+.
? The relationship between human behaviour and HIV/AIDS (include ways in
which the individual can avoid contracting and spreading of HIV/AIDS with
reference to reducing the risk of infection).
? Four examples of risky behaviour(s) – classify each of these as
high/medium/low risk.
? How HIV/AIDS can be transmitted in the workplace with examples
? Fears and common misunderstandings about HIV/AIDS in the workplace that
are not true.
1.2.a) Identify organisational and regional sources of data on HIV/AIDS and
interpret this information to identify trends. Provide the statistics and comment
on what the information is telling you?
1.2.b) Using the information gathered and interpreted above, determine the impact
on the organisation.
1.3) Write a report to the management of your organisation, outlining ways in which
guidance and support can be provided to employees affected by or infected

with HIV/AIDS. Your report should be written using the guidelines of report
writing in module 5 and must include the following elements:
? The importance of a proactive employer
? A proposed HIV/AIDS policy that is in line with legislation (attach the policy to
your portfolio)
? The possible problems that a worker with HIV/AIDS could encounter at the
workplace
? Suggestions for assisting with problems highlighted in the previous bullet
point
? Proposed prevention and wellness programmes, as well as voluntary
counselling and testing
? What are the Universal Precautions that must be followed in with workplace
? The provision of pre and post test counselling as well as the benefits to the
employee.
1.4) Explain the implications of the HIV/AIDS pandemic for both an employer and
the state, with specific reference to:
? The effect on the population
? The effect on individual ability to work
? The need for medical care for people with HIV/AIDS
? The effect of HIV/AIDS on workforce and family income
1.5) Discuss the legislation relevant to HIV/AIDS and what the implications for non-
compliance are (at least 5 types of legislation. Use the following template to
answer this question:

2.1) Investigate and explain the systems used in your organisation to process
salary and wage payments. Explain this process, with specific reference to:
a) What pay-related information is captured in your organisation monthly?
Where did you get this information from? (i.e. what is the source
document/s?)
b) How (and by whom) is this captured in the pay system?
c) How did you verify that the information is correct?
d) How is access to the information controlled in accordance with organisational
policies?
e) How is this information retrieved when needed? Is this process efficient/
effective?
f) Are any reports generated and distributed to specific people? Explain.
g) How are people (authorised users) trained on how to use this HRIS?
h) How does the system make provision to store long term valuable information
and the moving or deleting of inactive records?
i) What is the organisation’s record keeping policy? Is it adhered to in this pay
system?
2.2) Explain how remuneration and rewards information is stored, calculated,
reconciled and paid out in accordance with organisational policies, procedures
and legislation.
2.3) If a manager/employee requests certain information relating to remuneration
and rewards from you (as the person who manages the pay system), explain
in your own words the steps you would follow in this process. Your
explanation must include all 9 steps as per page 83 of your learner guide and
give an example at each step.
2.4) Report on at least two problems you have identified with the pay system
during this question. Make recommendations on how the system can be
improved, and how you will take organisation constraints into consideration. .
