Instructor’s Post:

Line managers have an important responsibility in managing the human resources of the organization (the employees). In this regard, all managers can be considered human resource managers; which brings with it a great deal of responsibility for ensuring a high performing work environment. What human resource concepts and techniques do you feel are useful for line managers? And in what way are these useful? It is important to apply concepts you are learning in the course as you develop your response (including citing of the textbook and/or other research)

Here is what I read on page 24 in the text book: I learned that the line managers have to design processes and systems that the operating managers must implement. Then I read the example in the book about recruiting. I think recruiting qualified and experienced workers for the job that needs to get done is a very useful job that a line manager needs to do. Please correct me if I am wrong but from my understanding the concepts and techniques that are important to a line manager when they are recruiting are make sure the business is hiring a qualified worker and that the worker understands their rights and benefits. For example, the employee is going to need to know what the benefits are when accepting their new job and most people look for jobs that will provide opportunities for them as a worker to advance with their career. Plus, people want to be treated fairly and a good line manager would make sure that they are being fair when recruiting and not judging people by their race.

2nd Student’s post (Bradley)
While reading these chapters I came to realize that no matter the size of the company large or small all managers are in fact HR managers as stated in chapter 1 section 1-1a. Later in section 1-3 the book says that HR managers and line managers both put their input on matters such as regulations, policies, etc. This to me just goes to show that line managers, managers, HR managers can all be the same person serving many purposes or many people operating their very own position. Either way they all have similar jobs within the company and that is taking care of the people of the company. Now to me the concepts and techniques that are important for a "line" manager to posses are as follows: know what each position’s responsibilities are, being able to communicate good or bad feedback to the employees, finding employees that can be core competencies, and knowing how the company truly operates. These concepts and techniques would be very useful because these can be the things that make or break a company by providing the type of services the customer’s desire. Also having employees that are in for long hall because of how things are ran, other employees being positive, and good chances of moving up in the ranks makes for better atmosphere on both sides of the table.
