A media artifact is an object one has collected, recorded, saved from media. The media artifact can be from television, film, radio, books, magazines, advertisements, newspapers, the Internet, video games, and so on. You will have to “read” the media artifact both denotatively (what exactly does it show or say) and connotatively (what does it mean). Focus on describing, analyzing, interpreting, evaluating and ultimately engaging the messages and meanings generated around race, gender, class and/or sexuality. If possible, include a copy or link to your artifact. If it is not possible to include a copy, be sure you clearly describe it. Avoid merely pointing out stereotypes.
