Before World War 2, the USA normally had small military forces, and spent little on the military, and was not often, nor for prolonged periods, involved in wars. But, even though the USA totally won WW2, after 1945, the USA has never returned to a ‘normal’ peacetime status: its military is permanently HUGE, and costs are also HUGE, and the nation is almost constantly involved in war, directly and indirectly, all over the planet (which was not the case before World War 2).
