Use a Southern California hospital, e.g. UCLA Ronald Regan hospital, for an example; or even Kaiser Permanente, basically which ever you can get the info online from. Then we can communicate on how to do the analyzing so I can give you the screen shots and you can discuss them in the paper.

Number or references aren’t an issue, I just want there to be a few references to the book in the course, which I will provide a pdf of.

Process Analysis and Improvement Paper

 

The purpose of the Process Analysis paper is to give you the opportunity to describe and analyze a service or manufacturing process in your work or personal life. Select a real-world process that you know through either direct involvement or as an observer. Make sure that this is a repeatable process, not a project. For example, the process could be the monthly closing of a company’s books, selling an order to a customer, producing a subassembly, or periodically updating a forecast. In the past I’ve also had students look at processes like scheduling military air missions, planting hybrid test seeds, and screening mental health crises – processes I had never even thought about in terms of operations and yet analyzable (and improvable) using process analysis fundamentals.

 

The particular process that you select is much less important than your analysis of it. In your paper, please do the following:

 

  1. Describe the process as it currently exists. Provide sufficient background so that I can understand the steps in the process and the role of the process in your organization. Your process description should be one to two pages long, single-spaced, 12-pt. font.

 

  1. Using the “Customize Problem” function in Process Analytics, set up the process that you selected. I will demonstrate how to use this function during the Module II Breeze session.Include a one-page Process Analytics screen shot that illustrates the current process and shows the process metrics (typically for an 8-hour simulation) of the process, as it currently operates. Briefly summarize in one to three pages (single-spaced) your insights about the current process and what your process analysis revealed as opportunities for improvement.

 

  1. Using Process Analytics, simulate two different improvements to the process, using an 8-hour (or other timeframe) simulation. Include the Process Analytics screen shots of both of the improvements.

 

  1. Discuss the implications of your findings and make recommendations for your organization in 3 to 5 pages (single-spaced). Questions to reflect upon in your discussion may include, but are not limited to:

 

  • What insights do the process metrics for each of the simulations provide?
  • Which improvement yielded the best results? Why?
  • Which improvement is most appropriate for your organization? Why? Note that this may not necessarily be the improvement that yielded the best simulation results.
  • What are the expected benefits to your organization of implementing this improvement?
  • What challenges and barriers would be associated with making this improvement in your organization?
  • What are the expected costs to your organization of implementing this improvement?
  • On what basis would you “sell” this improvement in your organization?

 

Based on the above guidelines, the total length of your Process Analysis and Improvement Paper should be between 8 and 13 pages summarized below:

 

1 – 2 pages Description of the current process
1 page Process Analytics screen shot of the current process and process metrics
1 – 3 pages Discussion of current process
2 pages Process Analytics screen shots of two proposed improvements and process metrics for each
3 – 5 pages Discussion of your findings and recommendations

 

You should turn in a single document that includes both the text and the screen shots; please do not embed links, as I may not be able to open them. I will post a grading rubric in the “KD Handin System”, so please use it to evaluate your paper before you turn it in, to make sure that your paper conforms to my expectations.
