2. Explain the 5 physiological changes that occur with training.
(This question needs finalising) 5 marks
Circulatory- The body increases blood flow to carry oxygen and nutrients to the working muscle cells, and

Muscular
Blood Pressure

What benefit are these components to the athlete who wishes to improve their performance? 10 marks

5. In emergency situations the acronym DRABCD is used.
What do these initials stand for?
Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillator
Give a brief explanation of these essential steps in assessing and managing a casualty. 5 marks
Danger: Check for any danger to yourself other people and the injured person.
Response: Check to see if there is any response from the patient ie are they conscious.

6. In less critical circumstances the acronym STOP is used in injury management. What do these letters stand
for and why is this sequence of injury management used? 5 marks
Stop, Talk, Observe, Prevent further injury.
It is a standard and systematic way of approaching any injury. It involves asking questions, observing the
casualty and listening to the feedback given before taking further action.

7. In crisis management you may be required to do CPR.
a) What does this acronym mean you will be doing?
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a possible life saving first aid which is a combination of mouth to mouth
resuscitation and chest compressions that allows the delivery of oxygen and artificial blood circulation to a
person who is in cardiac arrest
b) How many compressions and breaths are required for adults, children and babies? 30 compressions to 2
breaths (the technique is slightly different in each case.)
c) What depth are the compressions for each of these people and how (describe) do you perform these
compressions? 10 marks
