Robert Katz’s 1955 article, Skills of an Effective Administrator, is the classic text in the Skills Approach to leadership.  In addition to the information regarding Katz in your text, the complete article is available in this module.

Your first task in this assignment is to briefly research what important national events occurred during the 1950s in the United States. You must answer the following questions:

1. What was Katz (1955) responding to in his environment?

2. Who were some key social leaders during that decade?  Choose one.  What skills did he or she exemplify?  How were his or her leadership challenges similar to or different from ours today?
