International law is so widely varied depending on the country. Is your country (domestic or global) a developed or non-developed country? Maybe you’re working in both types. You must be cognizant of the legal environment of every country you conduct business in. What laws exist from both countries that affect your trade? When there is a conflict, which company’s laws have influence over the other? How will you resolve those conflicts?
Each country will have a variety of laws – common, civil, bureaucratic, and religious. There are also a multitude of laws that are politically based that protect the home country, such as sovereignty (a country has absolute power of what happens on their land, in their borders, no matter where you are from or who you are), sovereign immunity (a sovereign country is immune from jurisdiction, or lawsuits; in other words, a sovereign nation can’t be sued by another country when conducting business on their land), act of state doctrine (a sovereign nation is protected within its own borders and cannot be sued by another based on the sovereign’s actions in its own borders). There are also numerous trade laws to consider, antitrust laws, foreign corrupt practices, etc.
