Watch the movie:The Maltese Falcon by John Huston

Primary Reading(s): The Maltese Falcon by John Huston; “The Transfer from One Medium to Another: The Maltese Falcon from Fiction to Film” by Virginia Wright Wexman; “Sex, Booze, and the Code: Four Versions of The Maltese Falcon” by William Mooney; “John Huston & The Maltese Falcon” by James Naremore.

I will upload them in my files later!

I also uploaded an Analysis essay which I wrote it last week. It is based on the hard-boiled detective book The Big Sleep.

I think it is pretty similar but this time it is based on the detective movie The Maltese Falcon.

So I think my essay is really helpful to let you know how to write the Film Analysis.

Please work hard on the thesis and the body paragraphs which should have enough examples, quotes and most importantly the analysis should back to the thesis.

Basic Assignment:

Write a thesis-driven analysis of an aspect of rhetoric in an assigned text, written for an academic audience. Multiple drafts, peer review and revision are required elements of the assignment, and are calculated into the final grade; failure to complete parts of the process will result in a lower grade. The final essay must be 5 pages long and presented in MLA format with a Works Cited page. A total of two (3) sources must be used to develop the essay (not including the text being analyzed or Wikipedia).

Class Prompt:

Write an essay that includes 1) direct references (with quotations or paraphrase) to at least three secondary sources (other than Wikipedia and the film itself) and 2) plenty of references to and close analysis of the primary text. The essay should use the historical context of John Huston’s 1941 film The Maltese Falcon to enhance an analysis of the rhetorical function (message) of the text.

You must utilize at least three sources beyond Wikipedia and The Maltese Falcon (you’ll notice I’ve given you the sources), and directly quote, summarize, or paraphrase from those sources as support/evidence for your definition. However, the majority of this working draft should be in your own words. Include MLA in-text citations for any sources cited as well as a corresponding entry on a Works Cited page.

Page Requirement: 5 pages typed, double-spaced.

Audience:

Your RA Working Draft should be tailored for an academic audience (e.g., your classmates and your instructor) who is familiar with the text.
