Crisis Management in Education

Consider the following scenario:

A principal shared, "We had a threat written on a bathroom wall that said, dont come to school this day, and half of the school didnt show up based on the threats. In the wake of that, people started reporting other things on social media. Things just seemed to spiderweb off of the initial threat and we ended up with kids suspended and expelled. To see the whole process unfold has been eye opening."

Respond to the following questions:

How would you lead the school through this situation?
What information does the superintendent and board need to know?
What should you tell the public?
How can you avoid this turning into a crisis?

1. I would take swift action to ensure that there are no credible threats to our school community first and foremost. After this, I would personally interview every student spreading (mis)information on social media or across the school, and get to the bottom of where

1. I would lead the school with specifics, not bringing in vague details unrelated to the matter, focusing only on facts and student safety. Not exposing student discipline is also priority.

FIELDWORK ESSAY

KINESICS: the study of body motion or body behavior.

Emblems: gestures that have a direct verbal translation and can stand alone such as the ok sign.
Illustrators: gestures that complement our words such as pointing when giving directions.
Regulators: gestures that may prolong or terminate the conversation such as looking at your watch, walking away or nodding and leaning forward.
Adaptors: gestures that make you feel more comfortable in a communication situation such as twirling your hair or tapping your fingers.
Affect Displays: facial expressions motivated by emotion such as a smile or frown.

In this lesson, you will venture out and observe the people around you. Tune out what they are saying and then sit back and watch. Take notes on what type of gestures (emblems, regulators, illustrators, adaptors and affect displays) are they using? How often do they use each one? Are they aware of these gestures? You will then use your notes to write a typed two-page e

Overview

In this assignment, you will write a critical analysis of a film or book or television series in which you identify the mythic symbolism, the use of myth, the imitation or adaptation of myth, specific reference to myths that we have read.

When the original myths were told to a rapt audience, their imaginations brought the gods, the creatures, the events to life.  We have a similar experience when we see the symbols that arise out of the myths come to life when we see them played out before our eyes on television, in the theater or on film.  We enjoy these stories just as our distant ancestors enjoyed them.  Although our ancestors probably put far more belief in the reality of the stories than we do, we do not escape the impact of the underlying truths of the myths even though we proclaim ourselves "too educated" or "too enlightened."

Include the following in your outline:

The introduction should include:
A creative and effective attention-getter or hook.
A statement relating the topic to yourself and your audience.
The overarching idea of your speech and a preview of your main points.
The body of the speech should be broken into 34 logical main points that support the overall theme, topic, and purpose.
This speech should effectively persuade your audience members to change their opinions or follow through on an action related to a policy, fact, or value.
